Back when I was around eight years of age, I had my first exposure to soccer. My parents signed me up for the local peewee soccer team, and I was looking forward to it.

On the first practice, our coach told us to practice dribble the ball. Having played basketball for a while, I assumed that “dribbling” in soccer was the same as “dribbling” in basketball. Thus, I picked up the soccer ball, and tried to bounce it on the grass. Of course, it didn’t bounce very high.

My friend saw me, and laughed. My coach saw me, and asked, “what are you doing?” I looked around, and everybody else was passing the ball in between their feet. From that moment on, I would always remember what “dribbling” meant in soccer.
