Look closely at your tab bar and observe the small icon next to this page’s title. That thing is called a favicon, a miniature icon that shows up on tabs, Favorites, and Bookmarks.

So now you’re wondering, how do I make my own?

With favicon.cc, making your own favicon is really simple. You draw your favicon in the 16 by 16 grid, choosing colors and transparency as desired. The website even shows you a live preview of the favicon, right on your tab. Once you’re done, just click Download Favicon, and there you have it!

If you’re not the best at design, Favicon.cc has a collection of user-submitted designs. You can search by theme or sort by popularity. All icons are licensed under Creative Commons, so there is no need to worry about copyright infringement.

Installing the favicon

Put the favicon.ico file that you downloaded into the root directory of your web server (aka where the home page is). Delete your cache, and restart the browser. You should now see your favicon in the tab bar!
