It turns out that the activism on the Internet has pushed these bills to the &#8220;ropes,&#8221; as Demand Progress claims. Now, they&#8217;re asking me to push Obama to veto the bills. &#8220;<strong>President Obama has expressed concerns about the bills, but hasn&#8217;t pledged to veto them<\/strong>,&#8221; the organization claims.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIn addition to the slew of emails, major Internet websites and blogs have in one form or another, expressed their concern for SOPA and PIPA. Here&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve encountered so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wikipedia <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/01\/18\/factswithoutwikipedia-twitter-makes-up-for-wikipedia-blackout_n_1213337.html\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"nofollow\">blacked out<\/a> its website for 24 hours, providing a great graphic and contact form (see above)<\/li>\n<li>Google <a href=\"http:\/\/exeter.patch.com\/groups\/politics-and-elections\/p\/why-is-google-s-logo-blacked-out\" target=\"_blank\">blacked out its logo<\/a>, and provided a link to some statistics regarding anti-SOPA\/PIPA activism.<\/li>\n<li>SOPAStrike.com launches a newspaper headline: <a href=\"http:\/\/sopastrike.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">INTERNET GOES ON STRIKE<\/a>. Some websites choose to redirect to this link.<\/li>\n<li>Minecraft.net reds (instead of blacking) their site out with &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.webpronews.com\/minecraft-says-nopa-to-pipa-sopa-2012-01\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"nofollow\">PIPA &amp; SOPA? HOW ABOUT NOPA?<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Thought Box, along with thousands of other WordPress blogs, <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/news\/2012\/01\/internet-blackout\/\" target=\"_blank\">black out their website for 12 hours<\/a>. After the 12 hours, websites remain with a banner that says <a href=\"http:\/\/americancensorship.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">STOP CENSORSHIP<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What&#8217;s my opinion about all this political activism? To be honest, I&#8217;m not tired of these emails. A free and open Internet is something that I am fiercely proud of, and will defend with equal fervor. If you believe in these same fundamental principles, I&#8217;ve added a link to this blog on the sidebar: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/voteforthenet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">I&#8217;m voting for the Net<\/a>.&#8221; Clicking on it will bring you to a website where you can pledge to only support candidates who stand for Internet freedom.<\/p>\n<div id=\"geo-post-2061\" class=\"geo geo-post\" style=\"display: none\"><span class=\"latitude\">38.895112<\/span><span class=\"longitude\">-77.036366<\/span><\/div><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>See my last post about these two bills: SOPA (and PIPA): What they mean for your Internet.
