But in the past few days, the system went from okay to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webpronews.com\/did-youtubes-co-founder-slam-the-new-comment-system-2013-11\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"nofollow\">just plain bad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the old system had its flaws, it worked and that is absolutely essential. The new commenting system? It fails at <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2013\/09\/24\/youtube-announces-a-new-google-powered-commenting-system\/\">adding any useful features<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/11\/08\/tech\/social-media\/youtube-comment-backlash\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">it\u00a0<em>barely<\/em> works<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before, you could up\/downvote comments, reply to comments, and flag comments. Now, I&#8217;m seeing a lot of &#8220;[someone] shared this on Google+&#8221;. Okay, that&#8217;s nice, but do you really have to put this fact in the comments section? I find the reporting abuse thing silly. What, we&#8217;re going to report someone sharing a video that can be viewed by anyone with an Internet connection?<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of constructive criticism, however, I will offer some features that I would actually like to see in the commenting system:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Threaded comments, something like what Discus has. No more &#8220;in reply to&#8221; links all over the place<\/li>\n<li>More ways of sorting comments: e.g. oldest, newest, most popular (by # of replies), most voted<\/li>\n<li>Be able to see number of downvotes as well as upvotes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But first, we&#8217;ve got to get rid of this disgusting YT\/Google+ integration. You can help the effort by signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/google-change-the-youtube-comment-section-back-to-its-original-form#share\" target=\"_blank\">this Change.org petition<\/a>\u00a0and make your voice heard.
