7 Firefox add-ons that you just gotta have

Firefox is a great browser, especially because it comes with tons of mini-programs called add-ons, created by Firefox developers all over the world. Some of the add-ons are just for fun, and some will save you time and money. I have eight add-ons that I particularly like, and today I will share them with you.

1. TwitterFox
   • Created by: naan studio
   • Description: TwitterFox is a Firefox extension that notifies you of your friends’ status on Twitter.
   • My Review: TwitterFox is by far the best Twitter client for Firefox available as an add-on. Every time you start up Firefox, it shows your unread tweets – up to 200 in Home, Replies and Direct Messages. The TwitterFox window is also resizable and has the ability of multiple accounts, user profilie viewing, and much more. 9/10, highly recommend it.
2. TwitterBar
   • Created by: Christopher Finke
   • Description: Post to Twitter from your address bar.
   • My review: Compact, but does what single function it’s supposed to do – post updates to Twitter. I installed it as a “proxy” for TwitterFox, that is, to make updating my status less noticeable to people around me, especially my dad. 10/10, recommend it.
3. Zemanta
   • Created by: Briks, Zemanta
   • Description: Content recommendations for the stuff you write. Enhance your emails or blogs with relevant images, videos, links or tags while you write. Works automatically with GMail, Yahoo!Mail, WordPress, Blogger, Movable Type, TypePad and others.
   • My review: I haven’t used it so much as of now, but it works wit all the services I subscribe/use. Finding images and articles is very simple, although in WordPress it takes a while to load things up (but that’s usual for WordPress). I don’t use it much other than inserting links and images. 8/10, neutral.
4. ScribeFire Next 
   • Created by: Christopher Finke
   • Description: ScribeFire Next is the reboot of ScribeFire, a blog editor that lets you easily post to your blog.

5. Gmail Notifier
   • Created by: Doron Rosenberg
   • Description: The original notifier for Gmail. Supports checking multiple accounts as well as Gmail Hosted accounts.
   • My review: Yet another simple, but functional add-on. Does all of the above and displays pop-up on new mail, one-minute interval checks, play new sound, highly customizable. 10/10, highly recommend it to Gmail users. WARNING: DO NOT FALL FOR A CHEAP IMITATOR CALLED GMAIL MANAGER, AS IT OFTEN APPEARS BELOW GMAIL NOTIFIER IN A LIST OF ADDONS
6. ColorZilla

   

   • Created by: Alex Sirota
   • Description: Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies…
   • My review: The best extension for picking colors to put on web pages and CSS. Jam-packed with features and colors, yet simple to use. Color picker, eyedropper, palette browser, and so much more. Perfect for die-hard developers or beginners. 10/10, strongly recommend it.
7. Adblock Plus about | download

   • Description: Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. For a quick overview watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNvb2SjVjjI
   • My review: Great idea, great concept, great functionality. Setting up the add-on does take some time, but it’s very simple. Unfortunately, it may slow down browsing, so sometimes I just disable it. 8/10, recommend it. Also, if you want to select specific portions of a web page to block, try Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper (install after installing Adblock Plus).
